Utdrag fra Sjøforklaringen:
D/S ROSENVOLD (M. W. N. H.) av Kristiansand S.
Reg.ton br.: 758, last: stykgods, ødelagt 5te oktober paa reise fra Manchester til La Pallise. Omkommet: ingen.
Copy of Maritime Declaration.
On this eighteenth day of October, 1916, before me, Royal Norwegian Vice-Consul at this port of Ponto Delgada, personally came & appeared Capt. Otto Foyn, of s/s
ROSENVOLD, of Kristiansand, 378 tons net register, distinguishing signals MWNH, and declared that having sailed from Manchester, on the 3rd. inst., bound to La Palisse, with general cargo, met on the way with a German submarine which ordered him to stop and come on board, bringing his papers. Capt. Foyn at once lowered a boat and did as was commanded, approaching the submarine and throwing his books on board. After a while, the Commander of of the submarine ordered him to reenter his ship and go straight on the bridge and steer in the same direction he did. Captain Foyn carried out these instructions. The submarine then approached the Dutch s/s VEENBERGEN, passing by, and ordered her Capt. to stop and take on board the crew of s/s ROSENVOLD. After that, Capt. Foyn was commanded to leave his ship, without delay, acompanied by the crew, 15 men alltogether — who lost their property, and go on board s/s VEENBERGEN, which they did. Then the submarine ordered the Dutch s/s to proceed onwards to her destination, New Port News, and fired at s/s ROSENVOLD, sinking her. As the s/s VEENBERGEN, owing to bad weather, got seriously damaged on the engines, she was compelled to put back into this port for repairs, and consequently Capt. Foyn and his crew bound to land here. An extract of the logbook, concerning these events, was read aloud to the following members of the crew, who entirely confirmed its contents, signing same as well as this declaration. The members of the crew are:
P. Bratzol, chief engineer; Anders B. Olsen, chief mate;
T. Lundberg, 2nd engineer; and M.
Nordø, 2nd mate.
Signed before me at this Royal Norwegian Vice-Consulate at Ponta Delgada, Azores, this eighteenth day of October 1916.
Signatures. P. Bratzol.  Anders Olsen.
J. Lundberg. M.
Nordø.   Otto Foyn.
I - Rolando de Diveiros - Royal Norwegian Vice-Consul at Ponta Delgada, Azores, do hereby certify and attest to all whom it may concern that the foregoing is a true and faithful Copy of the original Maritime Declaration entered in the Acts of this Vice-Consulate, copied therefrom and compared therewith.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my name and affixed the Seal of this Office at P. Delgada, Azores, this eighteenth day of October 1916.
R. de Diveiros.
