Extract from the deck log book of the S/S SHENG HWA
The 11/11-1940. After having finished discharging at Yawata the vessel left for Wakamatsu to await further orders. The 6/5-1941. Received orders from Messrs. Myachi & Co., Ltd., Kobe to get ready to take onboard 400 tons of bunker coal on the 10th inst. The 9/5-1941. The captain has today sent the following telegrams to The Norwegian Legation, Tokyo, and to Messrs. Aall & Co., Ltd., Kobe. "EXPECT SHIPS WILL BE TAKEN OVER BY JAPANESE GOVERNMENT SOON.
JOHANNESSEN EINARSEN"
The 10/5-1941. The vessel has today been taken over by the Japanese Government and we have been ordered by the Police to be ashore before 15.00 o'clock the following day. At 17.00 o'clock representatives of Messrs. Miyachi & Co., Ltd., Kobe, came onboard, accompanied by the Wakamatsu Harbour Police, and lowered the Norwegian flag and hoisted the Japanese flag. The captain has today handed in to the Harbour Police a written protest against the changing of flag and against having to leave the ship. The Captain sent the following telegrams to The Norwegian Legation, Tokyo, and to Messrs. Aall & Co., Ltd., Kobe: "SHIPSTAKEN OVER BY JAPANESE GOVERNMENT TODAY AND WE ARE ORDERED TO LEAVE BY 3 P.M. TOMORROW.
JOHANNESEN EINARSEN." Japanese Captain and Officers arrived onboard.
The 11/5-1941. The Captain and officers went ashore from the ship at 1340 o'clock.
