Middlesbrough, England for Hvalfangerselskapet Kosmos II A/S (Anders
Jahre), Sandefjord. Sjøsatt 05/05. Levert i juni.
Fanget sesongen 1932/33 for kokeriet KOSMOS II men var
utleid til Bruun & von der Lippe (Jahre-gruppen).
1933 Fanget for KOSMOS II sesongen 1933/35. Skytter
var Arthur Iversen.
1935 Bøyebåt for KOSMOS II sesongen 1935/36.
Skytter var Johan Rove. Fungerer en kort tid som fangstbåt for kokeriet
KOSMOS. Skytter var Mauritz Marthinsen.
1936 Fanget for kokeriet KOSMOS II sesongen
1936/37. Skytter var Einar Barth.
Under fangst i Weddell-havet ble det oppdaget en grunne. Banken ble
oppkalt etter skytteren og fikk navnet Barthbanken ifølge US Board of
Geografic Names januar 1965.

sesongen 1937/38. Skytter var Johannes Andersen.
1938 Ankom Sandefjord 11/04 etter endt sesong.

Ankom Halifax 03/10, sammen med flere andre hvalbåter.
1941 Ombygget og innredet som minesveiper, med norsk mannskap på
25 mann. Omdøpt til
KNM MANDAL (FY 1837).
Ble utstyrt med kanoner og mitraliøser, samt en radar type 252.
Kommando heist 24/03 og tatt inn i 2 minesveiper divisjon under engelsk
kommando med base i Plymouth, England og Falmouth, Cornwall fra 23/09.
1943
Forliste og sank 11/09 på grunt vann etter å ha truffet vraket av
CARONI RIVER under minesveiping. Hevet og satt i tjeneste igjen.
1945 Løst fra oppgaven i Plymouth-Falmouth i mai. Forliste 19/09
utenfor Farsund under norsk styring under navnet KNM MANDAL.

Built as a whaling catcher KOS XIV at Smith's Dock Co. MD,
Middlesbrough for Hvalfangerselskapet Kosmos II A/S (Anders Jahre),
Sandefjord. Launched 05/05-1932. Delivered in June.
Catcher the 1932/33 season for the factory KOSMOS II but was let
to Bruun & von der Lippe (the Jahre group).
1933 Catcher for the KOSMOS II season 1933/34. The shooter
was Arthur Iversen.
1934 Catcher for the KOSMOS II season 1934/35. The shooter
was Arthur Iversen.
1935 Buoy boat for the KOSMOS II season 1935/36. The
shooter was Johan Rove. Works a short time as a catcher for the
KOSMOS-expedition. The shooter was Mauritz Marthinsen.
1936 Catcher for the KOSMOS II-expedition season 1936/37.
The shooter was Einar Barth.
During whaling in the Weddell Sea, an ocean bank was discovered. The
bank was named after the shooter and was named Barth Bank according to
the US Board of Geografic Names January 1965.
1937 As catcher for the ULYSSES-expedition in the Southern
Ocean season 1937/38. The shooter was Johannes Andersen.
1938 Arrived at Sandefjord 11/04 after the end of the season.
Catcher for the ULYSSES-expedition season 1938/39. The shooter
was Einar Barth.
1939 Catch boat for the ULYSSES season 1939/40. Shooter
was Alfred Pedersen.
1940 After the whaling season arrived Walvis Bay on 19/03.
Redirected to Halifax via Pernambuco and Trinidad. Arrived at Halifax,
Canada 03/10, along with several other whale catchers. Hired by Royal
Norwegian Marine (KNM) in July for use as minesweeper, with Norwegian
crew.
1941 Rebuilt and equipped as a minesweeper, with a Norwegian crew
of 25 men, as
KNM
MANDAL (FY 1837).
Equipped with cannons and machine guns, as well as a radar type 252.
Command hoisted 24/03 and taken into 2nd minesweeper division under
English command based in Plymouth-Falmouth area from 23/09.
1943
Sank 11/09 in shallow water after hitting the wreck of
CARONI RIVER
during mine sweeping. Refloated and repaired and put back in service as
minesweeper.
1945 Released from the minesweeping division in May. Wrecked
19/09 outside Farsund as KNM MANDAL under Norwegian
control.
1947 Raised and sold as scrap. |
