HMS COLUMBINE K 94 ved Charles
Hill & Sons Ltd, Bristol, England for Royal Navy. Sjøsatt 13/08, Levert
09/11.
Det ble bygget 294 fartøy av Flower-class korvetten under annen
verdenskrig.
Satt inn i konvoifarten og dekket nord og midtre del av Atlanteren.
1946 Solgt 09/08 til ukjent kjøper -1946.
1949 Solgt til A/S Kosmos (Anders Jahre & Co. A/S),
Sandefjord. Ombygget til taubåt for å slepe hval.
Omdøpt til LEIF WELDING (Oppkalt til minne om kaptein Leif
Welding Olsen som omkom på bevoktningsbåt POL III da de
forsøkte å stoppe tyske marinefartøy 08/04 ved 23.00 tiden i ytre
Oslofjord).
Som bøyebåt for KOSMOS IV sesongen 1949/50.
1950 Avgikk feltet 16/03 og ankom Cape Town, Sær-Afrika 23/03.
Avgikk Cape Town 25/03 med kurs for Walvis Bay, Sørvest Afrika for
bunkring 28/03. Avgikk Walvis Bay 18/04 for Sandefjord med ankomst
18/04. Gikk senere til Marinens Hovedverft, Horten for overhaling denne
sommeren.
Gikk med KOSMOS IV ekspedisjonen til Sydishavet for
sesongen 1949/50.
1951 Ombygget til en hvalbåt ved Howaldtswerke A.G., Werk Kiel,
Kiel, Vest-Tyskland. Akterdekket ble omgjort, konstruert nytt forskip
for mer sjødyktighet og plass til kanon. Ny formast, og oppbevaringsrom
for forladninger, harpuner og liner. Overlevert i midten av året.
Fangef for kokeriet KOSMOS IV sesongen 1951/52. Skytter
var Theodor Marthinsen.

The keel was layed 02/11.
1940 Built as Flower-class corvette HMS COLUMBINE. Launched 13/08
and taken over by Royal Navy 09/11. Got identity K 94.
Set in the convoy traffic and covered the north and middle of the
Atlantic Ocean.
1946 Sold to an unknown buyer.
1949 Purchased by Spermacet Whaling Co (Anders Jahre & Co. A/S)
and converted to a tugboat for whale and named LEIF WELDING
(Named in memory of Captain Leif Welding Olsen who died on guard boat
POL III when they tried to stop German naval vessels at 23.00
hrs. in outer Oslofjord 08/04).
Modified as a tug to tow whales. Inserted as a buoy boat for the factory
KOSMOS IV season 1949/50.
1950 Departed from the whaling ground on 16/03 and arrived at
Cape Town 23/03. Departed Cape Town 25/03 with course for Walvis Bay for
bunkering 28/03. Departed Walvis Bay 18/04 for Sandefjord with arrival
18/04. Goes later to the Marinens Hovedverft, Horten for overhaul this
summer.
Went with the KOSMOS IV expedition to the Southern Ocean for the
1949/50 whaling season.
1951 Re-constructed to a complete whaling catcher at
Howaldtswerke AG, Werk, Kiel. The aft deck was converted, constructed a
new forecastle for more seaworthiness and space for whale gun. New
foremast and storage compartments for preloads, harpoons and lines.
Delivered to owner before next season.
